Day 40 on the Trail

What an amazing day it was to be out in nature. This morning I woke up around 6:30 and before I could get completely awake it started to rain. "Great, this is exactly how I want to start the day" is what I was think. So Max and I decided to stay in our tents for a while until the rain passed. After about 30-45 minutes it stopped and we were able to get packed up and start hiking. Knowing it was supposed to storm all day we wanted to make sure we crushed some miles early.

As the day progresses it only got prettier and prettier. The sky was clear and the sun was out! It actually got really hot today but luckily there was a nice breeze for most of the day. The reason why we were also pushing harder today was because we had to get to Trent's Grocery to pick up our mail drops today before they closed. So we did around 21.5 miles before 4:30 today. This is way quicker than normal and we kind of liked getting that much done that quick. I think it would be great if we could always get in earlier. It would for sure give us more opportunities to hang out with other hikers.

Trent's Grocery wasn't what I had expected though. Throughout the trail I have heard about it and in my mind I played it up to be an awesome hiker haven but it turns out to be just an old country gas station. Although it wasn't what I had imagined it was still nice, especially because they had a little kitchen where they would make burgers and stuff to sell. I made sure to eat dinner there! I had a double cheeseburger with cajun fries and then 5 chicken tenders. The coolest part about the place was meeting a guy named trigger, he was preparing for a thru hike starting at the norther terminus which is Mount Katahdin. He is actually a Methodist that is being sent out by his church. Hopefully we will cross paths with him later in the summer. We sat there and talked about our experience so far with him which was awesome to get to have a spiritual conversation with someone. While we were talking there was a few hikers that passed by and talked to us for a minute!

Still can't believe I'm actually out here! It's such a great experience. Almost forgot, this morning we spooked a turkey on the side of the trail and it flew off as we came up on it. Scared us to death but the experience was amazing to see wildlife out her is a blessing! Also I want to thank the Martin family for sending us an awesome care package! Please continue to pray for us as we continue our journey! Thanks.
